Maccas Bash!

This is my lunch today and i dispensed with the puny extra cheeseburger, since real men eat bigmac's.
Here is a beautiful picture of todays fare.

Thank you to the busses for a £1.99 BigMac and Fries.

Filled a hole quite nicely, didn't really need any dinner when i got home, but still ate half.

Burrito Bash!

I thought I haven't had one of these for a while and its worth another go.
I was suitably full after eating this and I got another snap to show just how big this thing is..HUGE!
Great value even with all the trimmings, definitely still top of the list.

M&S get hot

I never would have figured it, but those wiley devils at M&S do hot food in the new store in one newchange.
I had to ask what the process was for paying as I wasn't sure, but after that little problem was overcome, and the discussion about he quality of the milkshakes, I was ready to collect my burger.

Wait time was about 5minutes, which isn;t that bad. No queue but the food must be sort of fresh.
Floury bap, decent looking red tomatoes, mayo included..
This was the meal deal which came with thick chips and a milkshake. (Neither of these are in the picture as I ate them before snapping)
Pretty good value i would say, its hot food and it comes with a drink for just under £5 thats pretty good in my book, since a burger from a chain won't be far off that.

I would give this a 7/10 as it was nice, and it made a change from a sandwich. It was a reasonable size given the extras.

A baguette but not as you know it

City Caphe place opened up a little while ago but i never eat lunch earlyso they are always sold out, plus they only tak cards over £15, but i got down there early today to see what was on offer.
There is a reasonable selection of different vietnamese food on offer and it all looks nice and fresh.

I opted for a baguette, well two actually one classic pork and one roti chicken. The chicken had chillis in it, so beware.if you don't like a firey zing. The pork has pate too.
Very tasty i must say, both of them nice flavours, and made fresh and at £3.45 they aren't much worse value than your regular sandwich from Pret or Eat.
I would eat there again.but the baugettes aren't huge which is why i opted for two and a can of Guava juice

Rating 6/10

Meat Sweats

This is a phenomenon which many people may not have come across, but its a term which me and a few other people use to describe the point where you veins fill with meat...the point where you physically struggle to consume any more cooked animal.
"The meat sweats" will usually happen right near the end of your 5 animal lunch, and your body feelsas if the meat is slowly poisoning you.

Ok, so for lunch how would you acquire enough cooked meat... The Answer is simple...The butchers!.

Just off Bow lane is a butchers that sells cooked meats and other generally dead things (apart from people)
They have a decent selection of things in there, but if you want spuds you got to get there early.

For my lunch this time i had 2 boneless chicken legs, 1 lamb chop, 1 saveloy, 2 sausages. (just in case you can't tell them apart)

All up pretty tasty, i imagine hideously unhealthy. Everything ends up being a fair bit dryer than if it was really fresh, but i guess that's what happens when you have a ton of food in a heating cabinet.
I paid about £6 for this pile of food, pretty good value when you consider its still meat, even if it is filthy.

I give this 7/10 as its pretty good value, but you can't eat it every day. its a heart attack in a foil lined bag

well that was filling!

After getting struck down with a vomiting bug, i learnt two things:
1. I shouldn't eat food other people don't want, especially if they are ill, it will make me ill .i.e don't be a bottom feeder. (It reminds me of a pub crawl once, when i sat down at someone random table after they left and ate all their leftover food)
2. Drink and eat more. I felt weak after not even puking one little bit, how that work that...Call yourself a vomiting bug...Pussy!

So to rectify this situation now i am almost back to 100% strength, i was offered a Burrito for lunch, which i gladly accepted.
A bag was placed on my desk and i was handed some accompanying nachos.
The picture doesn't do this justice. This thing is huge, 3 big bites and the full mightyness of the filling wasn't yet uncovered. This is as close to an American sized portion that you are going to come across over here.

The best thing is the price £5.95  for the large one or £4.95 for the small one. For something that i honestly started getting full 2/3rd of the way full, this is great value.

None of this luchtime Q'ing either, just order and collect.

This gets 9/10 as its a simply massive feed, and well worth the money.
(here is another picture, slightly blurry. Thats because i stupidly unwrapped the thing too much and had to stop it falling apart)

Boring Boring Boring

I haven't had anything interesting to eat in days.

I had a subway on Tuesday, Tescos on Wednesday, something else i can't even remember on Monday

Today I had a curry that could have done with some sort of curry spices. Don't care which ones, but it was more like a thick beefy pile of slop. Thats what you get by buying a curry from an Italian.
I had a fiorentina ciabata which was overcooked and very cruchy, tasted dull and wasnt worth my effort eating.
All this was topped off by a flapjack.

Lunch cost me £8+ and it was very disapointing.

Next week around work, i plan to venture further afield for something more interesting. One thing I am not looking forward to is the queues, gets on my nerves waiting for lunch, then having to get back to eat it. Thats 20mins of my lunchbreak gone before i even start eating.

Pret

Not somewhere i usually eat because while i don't mind the food. I hate the prices.
But Pret is one of those generic sandwich stops  (much like EAT) which cater for those groups who have no imagination and want to go to the same shop every day. For that convenience they pay through the nose.

I had a meatball wrap which is tasty and an all day breakfast. I am hungry, nearly £8 poorer, thats not right.
I now need to go out and get something else to plug the gap.

That is the main reason why I dislike pret. That and the many thousands of brainwashed individuals that go every single day to Pret for their sandwich "fix".

4/10 as it tastes good. (except when they went through the pine nut stage)

Giant feed

If you ever fancied a roast and couldnt be bothered cooking one, i have the answer.
I can feel the sandwich forcing its way down to my stomach, and its not going without some general discomfort, its like i swallowed a golf ball.
Plenty of drink required after this one to help it on the way down.

Well this is the daddy of sandwiches if there ever was one. A full roast.....yes you heard me right the first time. A full roast in a sandwich. Let that sink in a little.

This little beauty contains Yorkshire pudding, Peas, Carrots, Pork, Mashed Potato, Roast Potato, Stuffing, Apple sauce and Gravy.
When i have eaten this in the past, I have opted for all the roast meats.

This costs £5.25, but unless you are terribly hungry or eat like a horse, then this will fill you up.

7/10 for this once, since it does what it needs to. I didn't fancy eating all my dinner in the evening as I still wasn't hungry.

**If you fancy getting yourself one of these you are in luck, there is only one Fuzzy's Grub left in the city and its near bow lane**

Coronation Chicken Warning!

This is something from a few weeks back, i had the misfortune to eat something from a cafe down bow lane in London which proported to be coronation chicken. Its was one of the grimmist things i hyave eaten, some brown/yellow dog shit in a bap with cucumber pieces and i do believe....whats that in it.
Kidney beans!!!! who the hell puts kidney beans in a coronation chicken.

Safe to say it was so shit, and it pained me to have to do it. I ate 5 bites and threw the rest away as it was inedible and was one of the worst things i have ever tasted other than my own vomit.

Crisp Sandwich

I used to eat these all the time when i was younger, but a crisp sandwich is something of a treat these days. I think this might be because i don't buy the plain walkers required to make this pretty damn tasty.
Always has to be white bread with loads of butter, 90% of the bag of crisps and squash the whole thing hard so the crisps shatter into a million pieces.

Ahhh brings back memories of dinner a few weeks ago. I think i had two for dinner and a glass of coke.
Tasty!

Tesco-tastic!

Yesterdays lunch was much tastier, but todays lunch is more food.
I think i have a problem where things must come in pairs when its food. I have found myself buying two sandwiches, or two drinks every time i go out for lunch if its something I think a single portion won't fill me up. I think this has become an obsession.

Enough about that...on to the food. I like the wraps as part of the meal deal since they aren't dry like the stale old bread you usually find tucked. They get a bit too samey after the first one has gone down, but in the quest for being full i soldier on munching my way through my meal deals.
Pretty good haul for £5.98 wouldn't you say.
There is even a bag of tangfastics tucked up next to the crisps which was included in that price (only £1 bargain).
Eating while i type that's the two wraps down, one drink and 1/2 the cookies demolished.
I fancy nibbling on the rest as the day carries on.

Not going to bother ranking this, because this is a standard affair, £2 meal deal x2 with £1 for the tangfastics (love these) and 98p for the cookies.
I can already feel my teeth disintegrating as i start on the bag of sour jellys.

My favourite cookies are oatmeal and raisin, the sainsburys ones are always edible and at £1 are not too bad.

Subway is the life for me

Doesn't it make you feel hungry?

The good old Sub of the Day, a fusion of bread and salad and tasty meats, topped off with your choice of sauce. What could be better?
Well for one the price has gone up of late so now your footlong sub sets you back an extra 58p, Thats £4.58 for 12" of bread. I could rant about this, but the price had been at the £2 mark for ages, so they were due a rise at some point.
I always choose the sub of the day as i don't have to think about what to have (unless its tuna and that gets a big X), and its represents good value, and when i say value i mean its cheap and fills you up.
I am not sure if i would eat one for dinner though as that might be asking a bit too much for a glorified sandwich.

The sub in question is the Italian BMT onitlain herb and cheese with all the fillings, and mayo and honey mustard. The drink and yorkie came in at £1.40 extra from the shop down the road.
I feel plently full and not at all lethargic, so thats a good start.

I rarely "make it a meal" as that isn't good value at all, the cookie are tiny, but you do get a bottle of soft drink, which would usually be over £1. I would prefer to get a can and 5xcookies from Tesco, which would be the same price.

Rating for the Sub of the Day is a mighty 7 *it would have got an 8 if its was at the old price*

Food portion sizes

Its one of those areas where the public get ripped off on and no-one complains. This is highway robbery in its most basic form. You pay your £5 for your food and its a tiny amount of what you would get elsewhere.

An easy example of this is the Burrito.
I love burritos like many other people, but i am shocked at the size of these things in the UK. If that got served anywhere else people would start rioting.
Shops selling these have started cropping up all over the place in london to service the ever hungry workforce. Examples Chipotle, Mas Burrito, Chilango
If you take a look at the size of these you will see what i mean. Burritos usually have something to bulk them our, either beams or rice. But you buy one of these and the tortillas are very small, and they are hardly bursting at the seams. They end up only being moderately bigger than a regular wrap which you would buy at one of the sandwich chains.

Now with the staples not costing very much why are they so small?

I had one of these in Reno from a shop and it cost something like $4 but was massive. I ate the whole thing but i was stuffed to the gills. It was about 4" round and about 7" long. Thats value there my friends.
Even if it is stacked full of fillings that could be GM meat or beams, i don't care, i want to be full when parting with my money, not hungry.

So going back to my original gripe about these. Last time i ate in Chilagos i ate one burrito washed down with a coke, i was actually hungrier after eating that but didn't want to spend the extra cash to buy yet another Burrito to fill the gap.

Beware the Burrito.
If you know any good Burrito places in london however let me know.

Bad food comes in pairs

Due to too much choice and not much brain power. I have settled for the poor value once again.
A large big tasty meal (which i think they should rename, fake smoke flavour does not equal tasty), Mc Flurry and a double cheese burger.
I have posted a picture to illustate for those of you that have never seen a big tasty, and it looks.....like a friggin big mac. Except it has different cheese that is supposed to be closer to real cheese, and better meat.

This set me back £8.37 but I feel pretty full if not slightly rank. I can already feel my insides in a state of shock at having this total crap forced upon them. I will point out that this was my choice and its a little like being a lemming, i fancied eating a McDonalds even though its always a bad deal (in both ways)

The value rating is still unchanged and it is unlikely to get any better unless they do double cheeseburgers for a quid and 2 apple pies for £1.

Tesco's Sandwiches

Sandwiches are the staple diet of many city workers and it seems many people gravitate to the boxed pre packaged products, whether they be from Pret or Tescos.
Being the sort of individual i am, i decided on Tesco's for yesterdays lunch, and being the hungry type I opted for 2 "meal deals" I find these exceptionally good value especially since you can now have a soft drink all for £2, where else could you get that sort of bargain.

I had two orange juices, two wraps (the only one in the meal deal) and two bags of crisps.
I usually save one bag for a mid morning snack.

The wraps i find are not dry like some of the sandwiches but you got to get there at the right time, since they go quick.

I would give this a 7/10 as I don't need to eat two full lunch deals, and its cheaper in many cases than a plain sandwich from a proper shop, and you can have the healthier fruit if you wish.
Something you won't get too bored of in a hurry.
